Paddock Master

Summary of Duties

For JC TESTS, call hounds in order of the AKC Test Judging Form. Each test hound should be collard and close enough to the Paddock area to hear their hound's name being called.

For TRIAL, pick up your Paddock Sheets from the Field Secretary or Field Clerk.

Watch Huntmaster, Lure Operator, and Judges to see when they are about ready to start.

Call up the first run of the first breed (according to posted running order) to the Paddock. Call the next group of hounds to be suited and ready.

They are call as "Basenjis 1st open, jacketed and to the paddock! Basenjis 2nd open, jacketed and on hold, please!"

Hounds run by Open, Special, then Veteran.

Double check blankets and slip collars and that Color and Course match the hounds by Call Name as listed on the Paddock Sheet.

After Tally-Ho is called for that run, call up the next group of hounds to the Paddock and the group after that to the ready.

When the Huntmaster calls for the next group "To the Line", inform them that they are to go to the line now.

Repeat this process, keeping things moving and making sure that you always have the next set of hounds ready to run.

The PADDOCK MASTER (P/M) controls the PADDOCK AREA, which is the "next-course-holding" or staging area.

The P/M is responsible for expeditious flow to the line and shall advise the Judge of a Course Delay (in the event a Handler has a 2nd hound running in the next course)

DRAW SLIPS or PINK/YELLOW TRIAL SHEETS indicate the course number, blanket color and call name of each hound. The exhibitor is responsible for getting their Preliminary, Final, any Run-Off, and/or Best-of-Breed Draw information and suiting up their hound in a timely manner.

For the AKC Test hounds do not need a colored blanket. The release collar should be in place. All other collars or impediments must be removed. Running order is by AKC Test Judging Form order. Each test hound should be collard and close enough to the Paddock area to hear their hound's name being called. It takes roughly 2.5 minutes to run a course without equipment failure, course delay or judges' conference with the Huntmaster. Following the Preliminary run and a short intermission, new Draws will be posted and slips done.

This is a very interactive assignment. The responsibility to keep the Trial moving smoothly, requires good communication skills and a knowledge of general management is helpful.
