Inspection Committee
Call the hounds by breed to the Inspection Area |
Greet each exhibitor with a smile.
Ask if hound is for test or trial. Go to applicable list.
Ask call name of hound (if you are not able to tell the breed by looking at the hound, ask, you are not dumb). Put a check mark next to the call name.
If male, check for 2 or no testicles. 1 testicle, excuse the hound and mark as excused on the check-in sheet and inform handler.
If female, butt wipe. If there is any discharge, excuse the hound and mark such on the check-in sheet and inform handler.
Check the following breeds for disqualifications. If there is a disqualification, excuse the hound and mark such on the check-in sheet and inform handler.
Italian Greyhounds - A dog with brindle markings. A dog with tan markings normally found on black and tan dogs of other breeds.
Pharaoh Hounds - Any solid white spot on the back of the neck, shoulder or any part of the back or sides of the dog.
Rhodesian Ridgebacks - Ridgelessness
Scottish Deerhounds - White blaze on head or a white collar
Have handler move up and back with the hound at a trot. Watch the hound for any lameness. If any lameness is detected, excuse the hound and mark such on the check-in sheet and inform handler.
If hound is sound, thank the handler and call up the next exhibitor. Keep the line moving.
Send that breed's Inspection Sheet to the Trial Secretary before beginning the next breed in the Running Order. |
ROLL CALL is simply having the exhibitors acknowledge that they and the hounds entered are present and accounted for. The Roll Call sheet becomes the first document the Trial Secretary uses to begin the trial Draws as absentees are immediately removed from the draw.
INSPECTION COMMITTEE consists of two or more field crew members. It is their assignment to check in (Roll Call) the hounds and to send exhibitors to see the Trial Secretary who need to clarify some data/detail. The Trial Secretary will have posted the Running Order for the day and Inspection will follow in that order. Inspection by Running Order allows the breeds running first to be checked for any impediment and provides the breeds first up with a few minutes to relax while the Secretary prepares and posts the Draw Order/Slips.

Section 7. Inspection
and Measuring Committee
1. Are members of the Field Committee.
2. The Inspection and Measuring Committee shall inspect each entry for lameness, fitness
to compete, bitches in season and breed disqualifications at roll call.
3. Any entry found unfit to compete, lame, or to have a breed disqualification, or bitches
in season shall be barred from competition and entry fees shall be refunded.
4. The procedure for measuring is as follows:
(a) The hound being measured shall be placed on a flat level surface that is not slippery. The handler shall position the hound at the Inspection Committee's discretion. The hound shall be in a naturally alert position, with the head up but not stretched upward, and with its feet well under it and its forelegs vertical as viewed both from the front and side.
(b) A member of the
Inspection Committee shall first determine the highest point over the shoulder blades with
one hand, and shall then pass the measuring wicket over the hound from the rear with the
other hand, and place the wicket so the cross piece comes down directly on the highest
point over the shoulder blades. The wicket should not be placed on the neck in front of
the shoulder or on the spinal column behind the shoulder blades. At least two members of
the Inspection Committee must agree that a hound is within or outside the height limits.
(c) Handlers will be allowed only two minutes to position their hounds in a proper
standing position. Hounds that cannot be made to stand in the proper position for
measurement within the allotted time will not be allowed to course, and their entry fees
will be refunded.
(d) All Whippets will be measured only once and at the time of roll call at each and every
Field Trial, except that Whippets that have been awarded the Field Champion title shall
only be measured on request at roll call. Whippet Field Champions which measure out will
be barred from running, but shall retain the title.
Section 9. Field
Committee
1. Field Committees may make additional regulations for the government of their events as
shall be considered necessary and proper, provided such regulations- or rules do not
conflict with, change or modify any Rules or Regulations of The American Kennel Club. Such
additional Regulations shall be printed and distributed with the premium list and
violations thereof shall be considered the same as violations of the Rules and Regulations
of the AKC.
2. The decisions of the Field Committee shall be final, conclusive and binding on all
parties, in all matters occurring on the day of the meet, except for matters coming within
the jurisdiction of the Judge(s). Such Committee decisions must be made in accord with the
general regulations and standard procedures that apply to the trial being held.
3. The decisions of the Judges in all matters relating to the course are final.
4. If it becomes necessary to replace an advertised Judge after the opening of the event
and no person on the eligible Judges list is available as a replacement, the Field
Committee may select a person whose name is not on the eligible Judges list provided such
person is in good standing with the AKC. The Field Committee must announce and post the
name of any substitute Judge before the draw for the stake at which he is to officiate.
5. If a Judge is unable to complete a judging assignment, a replacement may be
substituted. The Field Committee shall notify the exhibitors of the substitution. All of
the scores of the Judge who was replaced shall stand as recorded.
6. If a Judge is substituted, the owner or handler of a hound entered in that stake has
the option of withdrawing the hound before the draw and receiving an entry fee refund. If,
after the draw, a Judge must be substituted, no refunds shall be made.
7. In the event that an unadvertised Lure Operator must be used, the Field Committee must
select a substitute Lure Operator and must announce the name of that substitute before the
draw for the stake at which he is to operate the lure. If an unadvertised Lure Operator is
used, the owner or handler of a hound entered in that stake has the option of withdrawing
his hound before the draw and receiving an entry fee refund. If, subsequent to the draw, a
Lure Operator must be substituted, no refunds shall be made. The advertised Lure Operator
shall make every effort to complete his assignment.
8. The Field Committee shall handle all official protests on the day of the event as
specified in Chapter XIV.
9. At no time may the Field Committee overrule, change or reverse a judging decision
except in the case of eligibility as determined after a protest is filed, without the
express consent in writing of the Judge involved.
